Objectives:

1. Physical and psychological development of the student.

2. To encourage the development of qualities such as self-discipline and good concentration.

3. To promote psychomotor development, coordination and bilaterality.

4. To internalize two fundamental points of Karate: courteousness and respect.

5.  Physically, the pupils obtain maximum speed, coordination, flexibility, force and strength.

6.  Psychologically, the pupils obtain maximum concentration, self-assurance, safety, self-esteem and respect for others.

 

Contents: 1. Basic and top Katas. 2. Kihon and Kihon kunite. 3. Kumite. 4. Bukais. 5. History of Karate and lessons from Shito Ryu School. 6. Basic programme.

 

Activities: 1. Warm-up and stretching exercises. 2. Strengthening exercises. 3. Exercises to work bilaterality ie. the differentiation of left and right and coordination between arms and concentration. 4. Relaxation and concentration exercises. 5. Individual skills and working in pairs. 6. Katas. 7. Kumite. 8. Games to improve strength, speed and coordination. 9. Preparation exercises for competitions. 10. Specific training. 11. Exhibitons at Christmas and at the end of course. 12. Evaluation: physical aspects, skill, kata, individual work, group work, attitude.

 

Evaluation process:  A school report is provided in which the progression of the pupil is recorded.

 

Equipment: Martial arts room, Tatami, physical education material, music center.
